Should I put specific details when writing a book review?

I'm writing a book review for my US History class over a book about German troops in Florida during WWII. I've never written a book review before. The teacher said the review was basically our opinion, so I was wondering whether I should include specific details from the book in it.
THANKS!

It's your opinion. Point out as much as you didn't like and as much as you did like. There is really no specific criteria when writing a book review except that it has to be about the book. It doesn't have to be all of the bad points; it can be about the good points as well.

Good luck!

Where do you find a book review that dates back to 1775?

I need to find a book review that is written circa 1775. If you know any good sites, please provide a link to it. Thank you.
Is there any book review that is online for free? I am not so keen on buying or borrowing a book index right now; it's due in 2 days.

Try this http://www.bu.edu/library/guides/bookreviews.html

Here is an extract from the seach engine - Index to Book Reviews in England, 1775-1800. The first work cites reviews of more than 3000 titles published in 16 periodicals during the early years

Hope that helps

How to Write a Book Report

These links are essentially the same, just choose the one that makes the most sense to you..!!!

The book report you write should be four paragraphs long. Remember to use correct conventions (margins, indent paragraphs, capitalization, punctuation etc.)

What is the best way to write a book review?

I want to know how to write a review on a book that I'm ccurrently reading.

it really depends on the book that you are reading and how long you want the book review to be. but here is a suggestion:

title page
brief introduction
author's purpose/objective/thesis (why the author wrote the book)
brief overview of the book

what was your opinion of the book
take about some of the issues or plot conflicts in the book and how effectively it was developed
critique the book- would you encourage other people to read the book

you can also compare your book to another book written by the same author (this is more effective if the two books have a similar theme e.g. Mansfield park vs. pride and prejudice by Jane Austen)

other sections you can add for non-fiction book reviews:
did you agree or disagree with the author's point of view
how effective was the book in supporting its thesis

keep in mind that you can add other sections to the book review to make it longer. you can also get rid of some sections to shorten it. also get creative and write about someone else that other people have not thought about

good luck with your book review

Psychiatry, Coercion as Cure, Thomas Szasz Book Review

Dr. Breeding reviews the book, “Coercion as Cure: A Critical History of Psychiatry” by psychiatrist, Thomas S. Szasz.

“Nearly all books on the history of psychiatry have been written by people who wholeheartedly believe in the reality of `mental illness.’ At long last we have a history of psychiatry by the very man who nearly fifty years ago declared mental illness to be a myth. Stripping away centuries of self-serving propaganda written by psychiatry’s acolytes, Dr. Thomas Szasz gives us a radically new look at the history of the world’s most dangerous political religions. From the eighteenth century’s `trade in lunacy’ to the nineteenth century’s `insane asylums’ to the twentieth century’s `snake pits’ to the twenty-first century’s `outpatient commitment,’ Szasz gives us a radically different perspective on the major episodes in the history of psychiatry. After Coercion as Cure, we will never be able to look at psychiatry again as a legitimate claimant to the throne of medical science.”

Can You Help Me With A Book Review Or Any Tips On How To Write A Book Review?

Im writing a book review on "The Prince" by Niccolo Machiavelli, and its due on thrusday and I need some ideas on how to write a book review for a newspaper. Please help me anyone!

start with a thesis question which states your ideas about the book. make general statements backed up by quotes from the book in the first paragraph. then take each point and explain it in depth in the following parpagrahs with other illustrations from the book (qoutes or stories). you can also google it to read reviews and include those, but your opinion is most important here.

How do you write a book review?

I have to write a book review for my english class. Do you know what I need to include in the review? My teacher didn't say.

A book review is your opinion on the book. Remember it's not a SUMMARY. So don't tell them too much about what happened in the story. You could either connect, predict, or analyze.

How to write a book review on candide by voltaire?

i have to write a book review on candide by voltaire. I no u cant just write about the book because thats a book report. so how do you wirte a book rewiew. and also any ideas on what to wirte about.

In a book REVIEW, you evaluate such factors as plot and character development, story pace, writing style, etc. You are giving your opinion based on how well the work meets these criteria. Read a few book reviews in major newspapers, (The N.Y. times for example) to see how they are done by those paid to do it for a living, and model your approach to theirs. Read the work being reviewed, then the review, so you can see how what the reviewer says relates to the book under review.
