I have a book review due for American History, any suggestions for a good book to read?

The time frame is from prehistory-1873, I really don’t like history so I am stuck on trying to find a book I might be interested in. I don’t really care what it is about I just have to get this book review done. Also this is college history not high school. Thanks to anyone who answers this for me.

Ernest K. Gahn -"The Antagonists"
Robert Graves "I, Claudius"
Norman Mailer "Ancient Evenings"
Henryk Sienkiewicz "Quo Vadis"
Gore Vidal "Julian"
C.S. Forrester - The Hornblower series, any and all
William Styron "The Confessions of Nat Turner"
Shelby Foote "Shiloh"

To name a few that I enjoyed.

Comic book review - Civil war, Batman ascend, Angel arrives

Welcome back friends, another week of reviews for you.

First off I wanted to talk about the rumor going around about the Batman ascending to a new God. The original idea that was floating around was that of all the major characters ascending, this idea I liked. Batman alone ascending I don’t. Partly because if only he goes up it means he’s got to come down. The rumors can be found on http://www.joshshill.com http://www.comicbookresources.com & http://occasionalsuperheroine.blogspot.com and they also make mention of the fact that Jason Todd might be the one to take the place. I don’t like Jason Todd and I don’t like the idea of him taking over, but if HE does than we know that sooner or later Bruce will be back.

Graphic Novels:

Civil War — Marvel’s most recent massive cross-over series is probably one of the best I’ve read in years. The idea behind it stems from an old idea (mutant registration act) but it takes it so much further by changing the entire mission of the act. Instead of just knowing who they are they want them to be part of the government payroll. They would have to be accountable like any other government official but they would also collect a paycheck and have benefits. This is where Captain America and Iron Man part ways…once good friends now bitter enemies this series is incredible and well worth the reads.

Origin — Wolverine’s True Hollywood Story. Where is he really from? Who is his family? Why is he so messed up? All these questions are answered with this incredible series. It’s great art and wonderful storytelling.

New releases

Captain America — Still great storytelling when your lead character is dead. Leading up to Alex Ross’s major arrival on the title and the new Captain America. This is part 2 of the ongoing story and trust me if you haven’t been reading it you really should.

Action Comics — Legion of Superheroes part 2. This is what is truly great about Superman comics…it’s good storytelling. Superman has been brought to a future that is drastically different than what he is used to. The legion has been disbanded Earth doesn’t want aliens to come around and everyone is being taught that Superman is in fact an earthling not an alien from the planet Krypton. Who knows where this story is going to go but if they keep up the storytelling I’m not going to mind.

Angel After the Fall — YEAH season 6 has hit the shelves. I’ve been waiting for this series for so long. The last episode of season 5 was such a huge cliffhanger that I hated there was not going to be a new episode. Well this issue starts off with such a huge twist that I wasn’t expecting at all. This promises to be a great series with smart and sophisticated writing we’ve come to expect from Joss and his teams.

Comic Book Reviews: Justice Society of America 12, Fables 69

We picked up issue #2 of The Twelve, a great series that we highly recommend. The Twelve follows Golden Age heroes that wake up in the present day after being frozen for 60 years.

We really enjoyed the hero-packed issue #12 of JSA. Lots of heroes, lots of stories and they’re recruiting even more in this issue.

Fables issue #69 is more of a great series that we really like. The artwork is top-notch and the story is huge.

Then in our speed round we cover Adolescent Radioactive Black Belt Hamsters #1, The Trials of Shazam #11, Jack of Fables #19, Proof #4, and Action Comics #861.

Today in our mailbag, we talk about how comic books tackle social issues like underage drinking and gambling. Thanks to the great question from JLTiberi on the Pulp Secret forums.

Comic Book Reviews: Spider-man WGP #1, Ultimate X-Men #90

First up is Issue #90 of Ultimate X-Men, which is setting up the end of the Robert Kirkman arc (which is ending with issue #93).

We’re not too sure about the Mr. Fear plot line in Daredevil #104. Do we think there might be too many problems with this book? Watch the show and find out.

Spider-man WGP is set in the time after Peter Parker was bitten by the spider but before Uncle Ben dies. Basically, young Spider-man is out there acting irresponsibly. The guys are split on this book. Watch the show and find out why.

Then in the speed round we talk about Superman Confidential #11, Afterburn #1, Mice Templar #3, Crime Bible the Five Lessons of Blood #4, and Wonder Woman #16.

In today’s viewer mail, ODouglasJ on YouTube asks us what we think were the best/most successful Marvel and DC crossovers, where the two publishers collaborated to make their universes meet.
