Book Review: God is not Great by Christopher Hitchens
This is my first attempt to review something on Youtube. I decided to review a book that I had recently finished reading, which happened to be the latest book by Mr. Hitchens. Hitchens is renowned by many as being a staunch critic of religious faith and one of the most entertaining and insightful journalists of our time. He is (in)famous for being a critic of such admired figures as Henry Kissinger, Bill Clinton, and (yes) Mother Theresa. In his new book, he takes on religion itself. On an interesting note, I actually got the book right on the night where he spoke on Anderson Cooper about the death of evangelist Jerry Falwell.(http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xMvnh87iJkY) As this is my first video of this kind, feel free to leave constructive criticism. Any trolls who merely spout criticisms of Hitchens on off-topic things (such as the Iraq War) will be deleted, and possibly will result in their banning from commenting on any other videos of mine.

This is the ‘dark …
This is the ‘dark world’, proven by heartless evil people. We’re at a lower vibration on earth and are only able to ‘know’ so much for reasons we don’t know and cannot know right now, yet we can make it a better place by being kinder loving people and growing and helping each other to a lighter way…yearning for that way until we ‘truly’ find it in the hereafter. If one always leaves it up to ’scientific proofs’..whatever, one is missing out on an awful lot. Spirituality should be simple.

Isn’t it possible …
Isn’t it possible that God and evolution can coexist? Can’t it be both ways. Couldn’t God have created evolution? One must be open-minded and believe in ‘love’ first and foremost then the truths come to your heart. Who cares about facts, be true to your heart. God could have started things, watches over things ‘evolving’ at a pace we can endure. Our ‘Creator’ gives us all the tools we need to use and figure things out, ‘we’ complicate things. The Infinite Light (God)knows what’s best…we don’t.

You don’t get it. …
You don’t get it. He is not vain or inefficient. ‘People’ put those thoughts against him and people like you believe that. God shows in many ways all the time…we can’t and aren’t supposed to know everything for now. We’re hear to learn and grow spiritually..everyone benefits from that. How do you know that when we die, we don’t find out more on our journey? Folks like this author get in the way of noticing and appreciating the wonderful things of God (however one wants to perceive God).

Not being silly at …
Not being silly at all, I am very serious. The guy’s loser and his ‘theory’ is not based on true facts. I agree not everything in the Bible is probably true and all and was altered over and over by man over time, but that’s no reason to denounce the whole religion or beliefs of that faith and say such horrible things about those special loving souls. Everything doesn’t ‘have’ to be proven to be true. Things don’t have to be ‘perfect’ to have merit. Things get proven in their own time & way.

I sincerely hope …
I sincerely hope you’re being silly. But in case you are not… Could you point out how the book was written badly? As for the reason for his denouncement of Mother Theresa, it was for her corrupt relations with the Duvalier family, among others, and her “Home for the Dying” which provided little in terms of humane treatment. As for Jesus, well, I would doubt that such a figure existed or was as “pure” as you think so. And the ad hominem on Mr. Hitchens at the end warrants no redundant rebuke.

What a horrible …
What a horrible book. Was written very badly. Also, even if you don’t believe in the ‘religious ways’ that our society’s practice and so forth, that’s no reason to denounce people, such as Jesus and Mother Theresa (both peaceful, loving, compassionate & loving souls)as frauds themselves or what they represent or things they did, etc. No reason to bad mouth them at all! The writer is obviously a mean evil person who is a big A-hole who needs attention and so fourth…wants your money, etc.

Dan Summers of …
Dan Summers of Lynchburg, VA owns Quality Archery Design. I am a machine shop owner and tool maker. I built some prototype tooling for Dan. He wrote me a $10,000 bad check and he also shop lifted close to $4,000 worth of tools and jigs then laughed in my face. The judicial system would do nothing to him becouse he was a Jerry Farwell worshiper. He was above the law. Actually I was the only one charged in the incident. He charged me with phone harassment for calling him about my stolen property.

Ah, but how can one …
Ah, but how can one tell when a prophet is true or false? Aye, there’s the rub. How can you blame the Judaic faith for not kneeling before Jesus (or Appolonius, or any of the THOUSANDS of prophets of that time)? How can you blame the Islamics for seeing Jesus as a prophet, especially when a lot of evidence points to that? In truth, anyone who reads the Bible and sees it as the word of God, or any god who is considered omnipotent, is mislead GREATLY. If you’d like to debate this, please reply.

but god is a …
but god is a synonym for “personification of what is good”.
but there are many possible gods, surely more than there are people. Perhaps what hitchens is really saying is “people are not great”. Surely this is (largely) a comment about the speaker.
For me, “god” =capabilities within a person, such as “higher consciousness”.

Good onyer mate, …
But oh how he assassinates those sacred cows!
Good onyer mate, Hitchens indeed is ‘The man’! And no, you don’t have to agree with everything he says, of course not!
And that ‘bite’ of his I dare say comes stemmed from that excellent sense of English irony! I’ve never found him to be ‘nasty’ in the slightest, just acutely honest and to the point. Have you seen ‘The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse’?

Those you mentioned …
Those you mentioned, (Koresh, Jones et el)are among the false prophets that Jesus warned would come into the world: “Beware of false prophets”. Jesus claim to divinity is supported by his unique accomplishment: He conquered death through his resurrection from the dead. This was not merely the revival of a corpse that would one day die again: but the bringing back from the dead of a life that would never end. “Many are called but few are chosen”. Jesus chooses those who respond to his call.

During an interview …
During an interview on PBS, a Noble prize winning scientist responded to a question concerning his views on the accepted “scientific” explanation for the origins of life as follows: “I know that there is not the slightest possibility that it [Darwin's adjusted theory] is true. I just find it harder to believe that there is a God who could have created life.” As one convinced that the evidence was irrefutable, I nearly fell off my chair… So much for faith in the neutrality of science.
