MCR News, Comic Book Reviews Kick-Ass, Captain America, more

Breaking News: Lead singer of My Chemical Romance, Gerard Way is calling Umbrella Academy his debut comic. BUT, we dug up a comic he published way back when he was in high school called “On Raven’s Wings”.

Mark Millar and John Romita take on real life people getting into superhero suits in Kick-Ass #1. This “real life” superhero even has a MySpace profile. Is this a gimmick or is it a book worth picking up? Find out in this review.

Is Thor #6 the Thor we’ve been waiting for? It’s still early on in this series, but we think this book has finally arrived with this issue.

Then Captain America #35, continues the great story arc with Bucky as the new Captain America. Justin calls it “an event comic written like a regular comic”.

In this Speed Round, we check out Good & Evil #1 which actually had some unexpected Biblical overtones, Ex Machina #34, Brave and The Bold #10 which is fun old school comic book action, Abyss #3, and Locke & Key #1 written by Joe Hill, Stephen King’s son.

In the mailbag: Metamorphic asks about our take on Mini-Series. Do more minis mean less attention to long-running series? Are more minis a good thing?

Read only a few of my books today. Definitely more than enough to satisfy me for the day. Thor was great like I knew it wold be. Thoroughly enjoyed Marvel Zombies 2 despite the flaws pointed out on the show. The latest installment of the LSH story arc in Action Comics has been great. Im on the fence about New Warriors. Surprised I actually liked X-Men Legacy a lot. Gonna go and finish the rest of my books.

I actually picked up Kick-Ass #1 today and the story caught my attention from page one. While it is still a little early to tell, this series has tremendous amount of potential (21st century Watchmen, anyone?) The mention of other “super”heroes showing up later in the story also makes me excited for the upcoming issues. Bring it!!!

    reality is …
reality is bullshit. the minute u write it down, it becomes artifice. the fact that our reality-tv obsessed culture has penetrated even superheroes is sad and hilarious. *sigh* you’d think that the adventures of spandex-clad superbeings would be a safe refuge from this shit.

Forget Steve Rogers? In favor of this Bucky/Cyborg/commie/Red Skull puppet? What are you smoking?
Cap was Marvel’s Batman, and killing him off was just another watershed event in the ruination of the whole Marvel Universe.
